Nusuk Permit Guide: How to Book Rawdah and Haram Access

The Nusuk platform is Saudi Arabia's official system for managing pilgrim access to key religious sites during Umrah. If you are planning Umrah, you need Nusuk permits to visit Rawdah Mubarak in Madinah and sometimes for specific Haram access periods. This guide explains how the system works and how to secure your permits.

What is the Nusuk Platform?

Nusuk (nusuk.sa) is the official Saudi government platform for pilgrim management. It handles permits for visiting Rawdah Mubarak (the area between the Prophet's tomb and his pulpit in Masjid an-Nabawi, Madinah), and managing crowd flow at the Haram during peak times. Permits are free but required โ€” entering Rawdah without a permit can result in being turned away.

How to Book a Rawdah Mubarak Permit

Step 1: Download the Nusuk App or Visit the Website

Download the Nusuk app (available on iOS and Android) or visit nusuk.sa. Create an account using your passport details and Saudi visa/eVisa number. Verify your phone number and email.

Step 2: Select Rawdah Permit

Once logged in, select 'Rawdah Visit Permit' from the menu. Choose your preferred date and time slot. Available slots are released daily and fill within minutes, especially during Ramadan and peak seasons.

Step 3: Confirm and Download Permit

After selecting a slot, confirm your details and submit. The permit is issued immediately as a QR code. Take a screenshot or download the permit PDF. Show the QR code at the Rawdah entrance in Masjid an-Nabawi.

Tips for Getting Rawdah Permits (They Sell Out Fast!)

  • New slots are released at midnight Saudi time (2 AM Pakistan time) โ€” be awake and ready
  • Have your passport and visa details pre-filled in your Nusuk profile to save time
  • Use the app (faster than the website) and have a stable internet connection
  • Book for weekday mornings โ€” weekend slots fill instantly
  • If you miss a slot, keep refreshing โ€” sometimes cancellations open up spots
  • Book permits for all family members at the same time (each person needs their own permit)
  • Children under 7 are often allowed without a permit (accompanied by a parent)

Do You Need a Permit for Tawaf at the Haram?

Generally, no. Tawaf at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah does not require a Nusuk permit during most of the year. However, during peak seasons (Ramadan last 10 days, Hajj season), Saudi authorities may implement permit-based access to manage crowd flow. Check the Nusuk app for current requirements during your travel dates.

Common Nusuk Issues and Solutions

  • Account creation fails: Use your full passport name exactly as printed, including spaces
  • Visa number not accepted: Make sure you are entering the eVisa number, not the passport number
  • No slots available: Check at midnight Saudi time (2 AM PKT) when new slots are released
  • QR code not loading: Take a screenshot immediately after booking, clear app cache
  • Permit shows wrong date: Contact Nusuk support through the app โ€” do not show up on wrong date
  • App crashes: Use the website (nusuk.sa) as a backup, try a different phone/browser
